Are you looking for a very high quality crokinole board? Well look no further.
Cabinetmaker/Wood Artist Paul Szewc of Guelph, Ontario, Canada built this unique and fun Crokinole game.
PLEASE NOTE: Because this item is very large and needs to ship courier. Shipping charges for Canada are approx. $90
This playing surface is regulation size. The board appears larger than some because of the wide ring around the edge and the wide gutter. The outside dimension of the board is approximately 34". The outside frame is made from Solid Cherry. The board frame has been been finger jointed together. (photo 4) (A finger joint or comb joint is a woodworking joint made by cutting a set of complementary rectangular cuts in two pieces of wood, which are then glued. To visualize a finger joint simply interlock the fingers of your hands at a ninety degree angle; hence the name "finger joint." It is stronger than a butt or lap joint, and often contributes to the aesthetics of the piece.) This means there is more of a gluing surface and the boards will never come apart. This is the best joint possible. Unlike mitre joints that will eventually come apart. It has also been glued together with pocket screws and brackets.
The inside large circle was made from Russian Plywood - the highest grade you can buy. The board has been laser engraved - an upgrade from boards usually seen elsewhere. The numbers will not wear off. This Crokinole Board will outlast you.
This board is made to exact standards within 1/8".
He made the numbers large and wonky. The pegs around the circle are metal posts with surgical tubing. These are removable should the tubing need to be changed in 30 years or so from now.
The round frame is more user-friendly and a delight to play with because when the game is over simply spin the opponents color back to them around the edge. The rim is also nice for leaning on. When you score in the centre place your biscuit ontop the ledge so you don't get mixed up with the other biscuits not in play. Other boards have a very thin ledge on the frame which is uncomfortable for your hand to rest on while you shoot. Our ledge is 1-1/2" wide. We have the best gutters too. A gutter is where the pieces rest while they have been shot off the board. Our gutters are 2-1/2" deep. The board has feet on it also so it doesn't scratch your table. As shown in photo 2 hang this board on the wall as a piece of artwork when not in use.
Standard 1-1/4" wooden biscuits are included in a black velvet bag. If you would like the counter box it sells for $25 with the purchase of a board and for $45 without the purchase of a board We purchased the biscuits and they are good quality and work well.
Finished with multiple sandings and sprayed with sealer then sanded again and then sealed. This creates that smooth to touch finish on every surface. This process is the same as a high quality piece of furniture. It is very durable and requires no care. Simply wipe with a damp cloth if it becomes dirty. It will last for many years to come.
The playing surface is standard 26" round.
Please note that each board has a different grain that the one shown in the photo. It will be very similar though.
The shipping charges are what we get charged from Purolator. We have not added any extra charges. The only way for cheaper charges is to pick it up.
